Renaissance Kentucky Top Five Priorities
  • Remove and replace overhead electric, phone and cable wires and poles.
  • Repair and/or replace deteriorated street curbs and sidewalks in the downtown area.
  • Provide an improved streetscape by adding landscaped areas to the downtown sidewalk system.
  • Place electric streetlights and electric convenience outlets that return the downtown area to a turn-of-the-century appearance and provide electricity for future downtown festivals.
  • Remove a dilapidated building that appears to have no historic value.
Accomplishments
.
Since entering the Renaissance Kentucky program in the fall of 1998, the City of Stanford has received approximately $1,000,000 in funding for downtown projects. These projects include:
  • Facade improvements -- $37,500 50/50 match.
  • Streetscape improvements -- $200,000.
  • Direct appropriation funds (for facade improvements) -- $62,500.
  • Major revitalization (for the acquisition and restoration of a building to house indoor parking, an antique car/auto parts and tool museum) -- $150,000 plus $100,000 (tea-21 grant).
  • Management support -- $15,000.
  • Historic rehabilitation tax credits -- over $400,000...
