Meet The Candidates 2006, presented by Lincoln County Farm Bureau and Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, was held May 4th. This was a non-partisan forum for the citizens of Lincoln County to meet those vying for state and county offices. The candidates for Lincoln County Clerk also attended a separate question and answer session sponsored by the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce on May 2nd.
 

Jim Bloink
There are four candidates for U.S. House of Representatives, 1st Congressional District. Jim Bloink stressed the importance of voting, stating, "We've got to have a new revolution at the polls." Tom Barlow, Eric Streit, and Ed Whitfield were not in attendance.


Neither candidate for 6th Congressional District Representative, Ben Chandler or Elaine Sue Carlson, made an appearance.


Albert Spencer
Albert Spencer gave a list of values which included truth, honesty, integrity, and hard work. He taught at Eastern for many years and the last few years involved economic development. Barry Metcalf is against casino gambling, has a 100% pro-life voting record and believes in the 2nd Amendment, the right to bear arms. The other candidate for State Senator, Ed Worley, was not available.

All three candidates for Lincoln County Judge Executive came to the forum. Buckwheat Gilbert has held the office for 8 years during which time lots of things have been done to improve the quality of life in Lincoln County. One of Jerry Lee Shelton's short term goals is to initiate an emergency housing program. Danny Godbey stressed that, together, we can do something about drugs.

All candidates for Lincoln County Clerk agree that preservation of our county records is a priority. Ron Lowe wants to start a community group in each area of Lincoln County and will, if elected, donate some of his salary to youth groups. Sharon Godbey wants cross-training of employees and extended hours. She, unlike other candidates, does not have any other business and will be able to fully dedicate her time to this position. Sonny Spoonamore enjoys his current position as Lincoln County Clerk and, together with his staff, has 90 years of experience in this office. Jayme Phillips wants the clerk's office to be more user-friendly and all on one level with a possible move to the current library location when it moves. Eddie Carter has 35 years of business experience in the county as well as a proven record as Mayor. Harold Crank promises to give his very best if elected.


Teresa Reed is the sole candidate for Lincoln County Circuit Clerk.


Shelby Lakes
Before his current position as Lincoln County Sheriff, Shelby Lakes spent time in the Army and as a Kentucky State Trooper. Many improvements have been made during his time as Sheriff. Curt Folger wants to have a full time detective for the first time ever and make sure contables will be utilized for serving papers and backing up deputies.

Brian McGuffey says, "It's time to lead this stuff in a new direction. I see a lot of changes that need to take place in this office." William "David" Gooch currently holds the position of Lincoln County Jailer and claims to be one of the most educated jailers. His education includes law school.

Lincoln County Attorney candidate Carol Hill was unable to attend because she was in a very important City Council Meeting. Her opponent, Daryl Day, says he's running because we need to do everything we can to make this county better.


The only candidate for Lincoln County Coroner is Bill Demrow.

David Faulkner
Mark Denham promises, if elected, to work tirelessly to bring progress to Lincoln County. John Lasure says the most important thing is to stand behind Planning and Zoning. Bob Jefferies sees change for roads and housing on the horizon for Lincoln County. David Faulkner's focus is to increase economic opportunities for present and future generations of Lincoln County. Wendell Long and Harry Goggin, also candidates for Magistrate District 1, did not attend.


Bill Dyehouse
Bill Dyehouse was the only candidate for Magistrate District 2 present. Many big issues including planning/zoning and occupational tax have come across the slate during his 20 years in office. Others running for this office are James W. Adams, Jr., Teddy Pruitt, and Michael Alan Cartmill.


Earlin Cress
For the position of Magistrate District 3, Earlin "Dude" Cress is proud of the objectives that have been met during his current and previous terms. Larry Dale Jenkins, Ray Sims, David Padgett, and Johnnie Padgett are also in the running.


Terry Lane Wilcher
For District 4 Magistrate, Terry Lane Wilcher brought up the importance of a veteran's memorial as well as some of the progress over the past including the Senior Citizen's Center, new recreational park and stock yards. Other candidates include David Watts, Chris Cooper, and Larry Berry.


John Williams
John Williams is seeking a second term as Constable District 1. He has a personal vendetta against crime and promises to be there if you need his help.


Jimmy Vines
Constable District 2 has a long list of candidates including Roy Rogers Pike, Kenny Hodge, Charles H. Gray, Richard Godbey, Gene Zoph, Jeff Godbey, and David Wayne Brummett. Jimmy Vines was the only one to appear and give his reason for running for office. "I want to do something for, be involved in Lincoln County."


Robert Oney
Robert Oney feels he can make a difference, give a sense of security as a law enforcement presence in the community. Other candidates for Constable District 3 are Keith Coffman, James Wallace Sims, and Lewis T. Johnson.


Brian Walls
Brian Walls has nine years military experience, including three as military police, and currently works at the jail. He wants to help protect the comunity and help take some of the drugs and street races off the street. His opponents are Troy Cain, J.T. Underwood, Burl Estes, William Kirkpatrick III, and Rick Puckett.
